Kristie Hughes of Canine Physio NZ attained her Bachelor in Physiotherapy at Otago University in 2000, after which she worked as a human physio in private practice before completing post-graduate training in canine physiotherapy & rehabilitation through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in the USA in 2017. Since then, Kristie has been working primarily in animal physiotherapy.


Kristie is Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough regions only fully certified canine rehabilitation therapist.

In her Canine Physio NZ practice, Kristie works in conjunction with your veterinarian to ensure your dog, cat or other pet animal receives timely & appropriate treatment to achieve the best outcome possible.

Canine Physio NZ provide individualised treatment & rehabilitation programs - from the aging family pet to highly competitive agility dogs.


Other Achievements;

  • During her time as a human physiotherapist, Kristie worked in private practices in Wanaka, Dunedin & Nelson - including establishing her own clinic in Wanaka, in 2003.

  • She was a provider to High Performance Sport NZ, treating national level athletes & travelling internationally supporting the NZ winter sports team.

  • Gained qualifications in clinical pilates & acupuncture.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Sport & Exercise Medicine (PGDipSEM) with Distinction - Otago University, NZ (2006)

  • Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT) - Canine Rehabilitation Institute, USA (2017)

  • Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPhty) with Credit - Otago University, NZ (2000)

  • Member of Physiotherapy New Zealand (PNZ) 

  • NZ Physiotherapy Board registered (NZPB)
